SCEE Stakeholders Workshop conducted in December 2022 at Technical University of Mombasa

The SCEE (Safety Champions in Engineering Education) Project held a training workshop on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th December 2022 at TUMEL, Mombasa. The training workshop on “Assessment of Safety Skills Capacity in Kenya’s Construction Sector” brought together stakeholders from various institutions involved in the Construction Industry namely Kenya Power (KPLC), Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK), IKEA, and Higher Learning Institutions. The training workshop activities included presentations from the partners, plenary session where participants had discussions, feedback session from stakeholders, and on the final day of the workshop they went for a site visit to Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Terminal in Mombasa. The workshop was officially opened on 9th December 2022 and closed on 10th December 2022 by the vice chancellor of the Technical University of Mombasa, Prof. Laila Abubakar. Prof. Abubakar attended the workshop where she gave her input.

The SCEE project focuses on strengthening safety skills capacity in Kenya’s engineering construction sector for sustainability in socio-economic development. The SCEE project is funded through Engineering X, an international collaboration founded by the Royal Academy of Engineering and Lloyd’s Register Foundation in the framework of the Engineering Skills where they are Most Needed (ESMN) initiative. ESMN seeks to support the delivery of skills and education programmes that will lead to development of much-needed engineering skills capacity, enhanced safety standards, and infrastructure that remains safe.
