The SCEE (Safety Champions in Engineering Education) Project held a two-day partners’ workshop on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th February 2023 at Tumaini Conference Center, Nakuru. The objective of the workshop was to review the project progress for Q1 (First Quarter) and Q2 (Second Quarter) and plan the implementation of activities for Q3 (Third Quarter) and Q4 (Fourth Quarter).
The workshop participants included representatives from Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA), National Construction Authority (NCA), National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSH), Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). Moi University was the host represented by the Prof. Eng. Augustine Makokha (Project PI), Prof. John Githaiga (Co-PI), Ms. Cynthia Mutuku (Projects officer) and Ms. Suzzanne Kalume (ICT).
Among the planned activities for 2023 is the implementation of graduate internship program. The project will support 10 fresh engineering graduates from Moi University for an 8-week internship training at KPA and KoTDA between May and July 2023. The interns will gain relevant skills and experience to become safety leaders in their workplaces. The project will also organize and promote dissemination and outreach events for safety awareness creation and sharing of knowledge and experience with the wider engineering community.
